New BM Journey - 4 All about config
Well done getting here, this is where the stuff gets interesting and we are able to start setting up our configuration elements on the Benefits Management module within Dynamics 365 Human Resources. This is going to be kind of the core article, as we need to set a lot of elements, but no worries, I'm here to help you :)
For all the elements we will config now, you will need to log into Dynamics 365 Human Resources > Benefits Management > Links. All items to be configured are listed below Setup as shown below.

Elements below are the once we are going to configure now, you can expand or collapse the sections as required:
Periods
Periods are pretty simple to configure, you can just add the periods you need for your benefits to be covered. As you can see in the image below, I already configured 3 different periods, but you can add as many as you want. Pro tip: think about the future, what's in the past, is left to the past - unless you necessary need to track something from previous periods, I highly recommend you moving forward.

Eligibility rules
Eligibility rules are a mandatory element to advance in the benefits management implementation. You can make them as complex or simple as you want. In a simple scenario, you can add - for example - Employment type, but as you usual, the sky is the limit in terms of imagination, and if you want to make it complex, believe me, there are ways to do so. If you don´t believe me, check the recording below:
Personal contact eligibility options
In this section, we will add the eligibility options for personal contacts. Certain plans, such as medical, can not only cover employees but family, kids, or dependents. Later on, when the process is run, we can select from the employee record who we want to cover. See some examples below on which personal contact eligibility options you can set up:

Coverage options
This is kind of cool also, we will define which coverage options we want to configure, that will be later on attached to the plans. In simpler implementations you can only add a few of them, preferably Employee | Employee + Children | Employee + Family and so on. See below some options for inspiration, but please do not feel overwhelmed about them:

Plan types
In order to create benefits plans, we need to create plan types, which work pretty much the same as Leave and Absence plans. Plan types will be the base for benefits plans so feel free to add as many as you like. Bear in mind that under the Setup tile of this form, there are some already defined plan type codes that include: Medical, Dental, Vision, Savings, Flexible spending account Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Other, Long term disability, short term disability. So when configuring a new Plan type you need to add the name, description and select one of those options already mentioned. Below are some inspo plan types as a guide :)

Employee self-service parameters
I recently discovered how cool this feature is. Because benefits management is a functionality mainly built for employees, this configuration item helps us to choose how to show them the benefits and kind of organize the benefits management section in the employee self service. I'm only using the benefits plans tile set up, let me show you how the config looks like and how the end user will see this in ESS.

Awesome, now that all mandatory elements are configured, we can move forward into the benefit plan creation. Let's go ahead!
